Mr. A. J. Thompson has been re-elected chairman of Wath Education Sub-Committee for the 40th year.

Saturday is Alexandra Rose Day when flag sellers will offer their tokens for sale on behalf of the Montagu Hospital.

The Scouts attached to the Mexborough Association raised £104 12s. 9d. on May 20th for the relief of distressed children in enemy occupied countries.

The annual conference of the Wesleyan Reform Union, which was to have been held at Wombwell from July 1st to July 5th, has been postponed indefinitely.

Air Vice-Marshall C. R. Steele, C.B., D. S. C., son of Canon C. Steele of Lincoln and formerly Vicar of Swinton, is to open the Swinton War Welfare Fund garden party to be held on August Bank Holiday Monday in the grounds of Milton House, Swinton, home of Mr. and Mrs. S. E. Baker.

“When Home Guards are on parade they look as intelligent as a schoolmaster.”  “If soldiers are needed and no men but the Home Guard are trained, then the Home Guard will do.” These comments were made by children in elementary schools writing on “The Soldiers in our village.”
