Married 50 Years
Conisborough Man Who Started Work When Seven Years Old.
Mr. and Mrs. George Henry Hudson, of 48, Athelstane road. Conisborough, have just celebrated their golden wedding.
Mr. Hudson was born at Everton, near Retford, and is 74 years old, and his wife, who was born at Highthorne, near Kilnhurst, is 69.
Their marriage took place at the Rotherham Register Office in 1879. Mr. Hudson first started working at the age of seven, as a day lad at Broom House, Edlington and was paid at the rate sixpence per day, which was considered to “very good money” in those days. He commenced work Denaby Main Colliery in 1914 and from there, he moved to Cadeby Main Colliery in 1914 and worked up to about two years ago, when his health broke down.
They have had 11 children, of whom 10 this are living, and there are 13 grandchildren and great-grand-children.
