Royal Message to Denaby Man
Mr John Chappell Mason, of 48 Street Denaby main, who has five sons in the Army, has received the following message from the King:
Sir, I have pleasure in informing you that the King had heard with much interest that you have at the present moment five sons serving in his Majesty’s forces.
I’m commanded to express to you the King’s congratulations, and assure you that his Majesty much appreciates the spirit of patriotism which prompted this example, in one family, of loyalty and devotion to their sovereign.

The following of the sons of Mr Mason referred to in the King’s message: Private George Mason (Canadians), on active service. Aged 36
Private John William Mason (Canadians) on active service. Aged 34
Cpl Gilbert Mason (Scottish Fusiliers) on active service. Aged 24
Private Joseph Mason (Kings own Yorkshire light infantry) in training at Harrogate. Aged 22
Private Percy Mason (Kings own Yorkshire light infantry) Aged 16.
The two eldest of the children of Mr Mason’s first, and the other three boys the children of a second marriage.
The Canadians were taken by their father to the United States years ago but subsequently they crossed into the dominion.
