Matches in the Pit At Denaby.

Wilfred Smith, filler, Denaby was summoned for breach of special colliery rule number 99, which requires that no matches be taken down the mine.

Mr Frank Allen, solicitor, Denaby appeared to prosecute on behalf of the Denaby Colliery Company, and stated that he did not wish to press the case.

The boy took a match down the pit in his pocket, and when his attention was quoted by the deputy, the boy said he did not know it was there.

Mr. Allen asked that a fine of 6d only be inflicted, as that case was brought as a warning to the lad to be more careful in the future.

Smith pleaded guilty, and said he was very sorry.

The Chairman. You must remember that this is a very dangerous practice and let this be a warning. to you to be more careful in future. You will be fined 6d, and the costs.
