Denaby Six Goal Shock.
Denaby United 6 Heanor Town 0
Denaby United produced one of the shock Midland League results of the season on Friday when they dealt out a 6-0 thrashing to Heanor – earlier this season challenging for promotion – at Tickhill square.
With David Grierson, normally a half back for Denaby, spearheading the United attack, Heanor and no answer to their lively forward line will stop Heanor, who have had a backlog of fixtures to make up in recent weeks, were lethargic and never looked like mastering Denaby.
In the opening minutes Heanor inside left Swann had the ball in Denaby’s net, but the referee had already blown for an infringement.
After 10 minutes Cox, who rarely put a foot wrong, scored from a Grierson pass. Then 5 min later Grierson shrugged off two tackles, beat the keeper and fired the ball into the corner of the net.
Wood put Denaby three in front after 35 min, and shortly afterwards. Swann just missed with a header. Sn the 69th minute, Denaby forced a corner, from which several United players and shots blocked but up popped Gary Roebuck to hit the ball home.
In the 80th minute Grierson got Denaby’s fifth and the centre forward completed his hat-trick just before the final whistle.
