Mexborough 88 Conisborough 46
this match was played at Mexborough on Saturday last, in the loveliest weather, and in the presence of a moderate number of spectators.
The wickets of the Mexborites fell fast at the commencement, Lewis only making a stand for 10, until Heald and Vardy changed the aspect of the game by scoring heavily and in good style. They innings concluded for 88. For Conisborough, the bowling of Wood (3 wickets), Briggs (5 wickets) and Hague (2 wickets) was exceedingly good.
To the bowling of Lewis (6 wickets) and Bennett (3 wickets) Conisborough, commenced their innings and were soon disposed of for 46. Wood (8), Dawson(10), Marshall (6) and Booth(8) were the chief scorers.
Our old friend Mr Shutt obtained four in good style, and appeared to hit with his usual freedom. The match which was a highly interesting terminated in a victory for the home team by 42 runs.
