Denaby Main 39 Mexborough 77

Saturday was the first occasion on which these two teams met at cricket, and naturally there was much speculation as to which would win, although naturally opinion ran in favour of the Mexborough team.

The match was played on the Denaby enclosure, and be said to the credit of the club, the wicket was in grand condition. Although the visitors won, the colliery team are not to be despised. Theirfielding was excellent, and they threw no chances away, with the exception of a simple catch, which Mr Witty failed to hold.

The Robinson Trio out are very capable and enthusiastic cricketers, and A.Robinson is a bowler of exceptional merit.

The Denaby umpire did not give much satisfaction to the Mexborough team when he gave Gayle out LBW off Harrison, who was bowling very wide round the wicket. There was nothing of exceptional merit in the Mexborough innings, which closed for 77.

When, Denaby batted, the Mexborough professional, W.Brown proved altogether too good for them and with the first two balls he sent down he dismissed Moore and E.Robinson.

Nobody could withstandthe deadly attack of Brown and Bennett and the innings closed for 39. Brown took six wickets for 6 runs
