Meet Mr. Windle
Billie Windle, five feet two inches of him, selected to make his debut in the Leeds United team to-day against Millwall, is a young player who has quickly made himself firm favourite.
At Elland Road they will tell you that he what Known “a wick un” He is a small bundle of concentrated energy, and has shown the ability pop up in allsorts ot unexpected places on the field.
Billie halls from Denaby, where he was collier. It would a great thing for United if he followed in the footsteps another South Yorkshireman, Eric Brook, the former England and Manchester City outside-left.
Less than two months ago he was playing in minor football. His League debut comes after six games the reserve side, which is by no means a record if anybody starts head-scratching on the subject. His team-mates Elland Road say he has bags of confidence, a good football brain, and a Yorkshire sense of humour.
And that, I feel is praise indeed.
