Players’ Accidents.

By their 3 — 0 victory over Chesterfield Reserves at the Field Mill ground, Mansfield, on Saturday, Mansfield Town made secure their Championship of the Midland League, an honour they have won for the third time. Gainsborough Trinity were the holders.

Mansfield hope that this, coupled with the fact that they are excused the earlier rounds of the Football Association Cup competition next season, will weigh in their favour when the League clubs meet in June to fill vacancies in Third Division.

On Saturday Kerry scored for them in the first half and (Morris got couple later. Jackson. Anthony, Chambers, Cooke, and McLachlan were the pick of the winners, and Machent, Tubb, and Shepherd did best for the visitors.

Binns got all five goals for Shirebrook, who surprised Lincoln City Reserves with their dash on the Sincil Bank, and won 5—2.

Maw, formerly of Scunthorpe, did the hat trick for Notts County Reserves, who won 4 – 1 at Worksop.

Smalley scored both goals for Scunthorpe at  Scarborough, after the home team had led goals by and Jones. A fine display of grit by the visitors gave them a point.

Staveley gained a plucky 3—1 victory at Denaby, where Cartwright deputised in the home goal for Speight, who was ill.

Young Wombwell Winger’s Accident.

Gainsborough Trinity wound their home Midland League programme with convincing win over Wombwell by 5 – 0. Wombwell, however, were at a disadvantage owing an injury to Pennington, their young outside-right, who fractured a bone in his ankle after the game had been in progress a few minutes. He was removed to hospital. Shaw (2) and Myers (5) scored. Shaw’s total of goals in the Midland League since he rejoined the club from Cardiff City is now 30. Trinity’s two remaining matches are at York and Chesterfield.

Wath Athletic gave one of the poorest home displays for some seasons and lost 4 -1 to Doncaster Rovers Reserves, who made full use of every chance that came their w ay. Julian (2). Price, and Holmes scoring the goals.

A fairly even match was witnessed at Millmoor between Rotherham United Reserves and Barnsley Reserves. The visitors, however, deserved their win of 2—1, although their attack at times was ragged. Rotherham’s defence was good, and Boat, the goalkeeper, made several smart clearances.

Cowie got the goals for York City. who beat Nottingham Forest Reserves 2—0 before nearly 4,000 spectators at York.

Hoddinott, hat-trick,” Newbold. and Evans scored for Newark, who beat Hull City Reserves 5 – 1. Ironmonger, the Newark ’keeper, was carried off in the second half, suffering from a broken collarbone.

The wind played a prominent port in the Midland League match at Boston, who beat Frickley 2 – 0 on Saturday. Jenkinson (S.) and Earle scored.
