Wombwell Delight.

Wombwell  4  Doncaster Rovers Res 1

Wombwell delighted their supporters by well deserved 4 – 1 Victory over Doncaster Rovers Reserves at Wombwell.

The football was fast and attractive throughout. There was little to choose between the sides in midfield, but the home forwards were the more enterprising, the Rovers’ forwards, finishing badly.

Wombwell took the lead through Davies in the first half while kicking against the wind. Atherton equalised shortly after the resumption, but further goals were scored for Wombwell by Davies and Jones (two).

Davies was a clever forward, and Barber and Briggs smart on the wings. Park and Spargo served tne Rovers well.

Denaby United  3 Grantham 3

After getting a good grip on the game and establishing a three goals lead, Denaby United fell away so badly that Grantham might easily have won. Instead the visitors levelled the scores with almost the last kick of the match.

Skeels’ two goals were examples of opportunism First he made a long dash from the wing and later nipped in when Norman had drawn Reeve. Gilchrist scored a third after Skeels had hit the bar.

Grantham’s goals were scored by Barrett (penalty) and Morris (two).

Mexborough’s Newcomers.

Mexborough Athletic  2  Boston  2

A draw 2 – 2 was the outcome of Mexborough Athletic’s home match with Boston.

About 1,500 spectators were served with a fluctuating game in which particular interest was taken in Roseboom and Coleman, Mexborough’s new extreme wingers who shaped well on the whole.

Coleman gave Mexborough the lead before the interval; Smith equalised; Mexborough went ahead again through Wilson, and then Porter equalised.
