Success of Denaby Carting Scheme

Reduced Charges

The 16th annual general meeting of the Denaby and Cadeby Home Coal Carting Committee was held in the Miners’ Welfare on Sunday, Mr. T. Hill presiding.

It was stated that last year 33,523 loads (a record number) were carried, at an average cost of 2s. 6d. per load

It was decided to make the following reductions inn charges for carting: –

Outside these limits there is to be no alteration.

On an estimated average of nine loads per year this will reduce the profit by £112 and will save the contributions £94 10s.

It was decided to make a grant of £100 to the Cadeby Disaster Fund and the hope was expressed that the royalty owners and colliery company would double this amount.

The cash account showed an income of £4,423, to which must be added        £2, 497 cash in hand and at bank.  The chief item was £4,233, collected from workmen.

On the expenditure side were wages £1,979, officials £102, committee £75, petrol, oil etc. £426 repairs £294, licences £216, insurances £108, horsekeep £54, printing £16, rates, taxes, tithes £39, hospital and doctors £20, donations £23, hospital sports 10/6, S.J.A.B. £1, bank charges £27, legal charges £84, share of street widening £82, additions to motor lorries £650, additions to plant and machinery £50.

The profit and loss account showed a profit of £112.  The balance sheet showed assets £6,406 (including land and buildings £1440, plant and machinery £223, ferry boat £73, horse, cart and harness £36, motor lorries £1,724, sundry debtors £302) and cash in bank and in hand £2,629.
