Miners meeting at Denaby

September 1882

Mexborough and Swinton Times September 9.

Miners meeting at Denaby last night.

One of the most enthusiastic meetings held for some time took place last night in the Lodge house at Denaby Main.

Three or four hundred miners were present, and Mr Peter Hatton was in the chair.
Long addresses were given by Mr Chappell, Masbro’ and Mr Rymer of Wombwell

Mr Chappell reviewed the work done by the conference in Manchester last week, putting clearly before the men, its nature and extent and bearing and they seem satisfied.

They were also urged to be careful and peaceful in what they did and not to attempt harsh measures in trying to get an advance of wages.
And they accepted the advice, and warmly endorsed the sentiments of both speakers, to whom at the close they offered full thanks
