A Miner’s Midnight Movements at Conisborough
at Doncaster on Tuesday, Patrick Madden, who has previously been before the court, was charged with “loitering with intent to commit a felony” at Conisborough.
While Sgt Brown and PC Evans were on duty at 11.30 the previous night they saw the prisoner examining the shutters at a pawn shop . Whilst he was handling the shutters he was disturbed by the bark of a dog in the shop, and he then left.
They all see what he was doing at that time of night, and he replied, “That’s my business, not yours.” They told him they should lock him up, and then he exclaimed to Evans, “If ever I see you drunk and asleep sitting on a doorstep I shall murder you, you – – – –.” He also threatened the sergeant.
In the man’s pocket was part of a poker.
Remanded till Saturday.
