Miners Pay For Denaby Future
A successful appeal to N.U.M. branches at two local pits has assured the future of Midland League football at Denaby, where unbroken association for 40 years was threatened by financial difficulties.
Gates of less than 2.000 cannot meet expenses, and in recent years only transfer fees have balanced the budget.
During the holiday a mass meeting was held to discuss miners’ allocation to the sports fund. The weekly stoppage has now been increased from 1d. to 3d., revenue being divided between bowls, cricket, football, and tennis sections.
Contributors are entitled to a 50 per cent, reduction in admittance charges to football and cricket matches.
