Miners Quarrel – Attacked with Saucepan

At the monthly court on Thursday, before R.Wildman, Esq, an action for £10 damages was brought by James Wells, of Conisbrough, against Thomas Sissons of the same place.

Both men are miners, and work at Denaby main. On the 11th they quarrelled at a public house, and plaintiff alleges that on his way home he was attacked by the defendant, and very much ill-used, having to be attended by Mr Lister, of Doncaster.

Defendant struck him several times with a saucepan.

The defence was that the plaintiff had struck the first blow, having sought a quarrel with defendant because the latter had been put over him at the colliery.

His Honour gave verdict for £5.
