A missing brother and sister from Denaby were found on Wednesday only a mile from their home.

Eight years old Barry Brasher and his sister Marie (9), left their home 91 Annerley Street, at 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday, by forcing the back door lock with a knife. They took a little money and food with them.

Their father, colliery worker Daniel Brasher, did not know they had gone into the awakened at 5.30 a.m., and he reported the children missing to Denaby police at 6 a.m.

Twice Before

Mr Brasher told the “South Yorkshire Times” on Wednesday: “This is not the first time they have gone out, but on the other two occasions they were picked up by police in the Mexborough area.”

The two children were spotted by Mr Francis Ward, of 60 Daylands Avenue, Conisbrough, just after 8 p.m. and he was driving towards Mexborough in his van. He had seen a report of their disappearance and when he saw two tired, dishevelled children wandering near the river, he picked them up until them to Denaby Police Station where they were identified as Barry and Marie and given a hot meal.
