More Dancing Laurels for Wendy and Roger.

A Denaby and Conisbrough dancing couple have carried off hundreds of dancing trophies, medals and titles in their five years together – and in the last month they have added the North of England junior ballroom championship, the champion of champions title at a Birmingham competition, to Leeds and to Mexborough titles, and the junior championship at Bridlington spa, Royal Hall to their impressive list.

The couple, Wendy tenant (15), of the Reresby arms, Denaby, and Roger Metcalfe (14), of 16, Hazel Grove, Conisbrough, are England junior ballroom dancing team members and members of the Constance grant junior formation team.

Their Bridlington win meant that they have achieved the unparalleled feat of winning there five successive times, once as juveniles, twice as under 14’s, and twice as under 16’s.

Wendy’s mother, Mrs Doris Tennant, whose mother is the licensee of the Reresby Arms, told the “South Yorkshire Times” this week, “Wendy started her interest in dancing at the age of four. She used to watch dancing on television, and asked if she could take lessons. She did well right from the start.

“Mr Tennant and I got interested in the pastime with her, and we follow her dancing very keenly. We went to Germany when they appeared in the England team last year.
