Denaby Fail To Force A Win

Denaby’s big score did not avail them much in their match with Rossington being drawn (decidedly in their favour, it must be said), on Saturday.
Tough Ernest Wainwright was out comparatively cheaply. Greenwood and Joe Wright stayed together long enough to lay the foundation of a big score. Wright passed the half-century before he was caught and bowled by Widdison, and though Ellis Robinson got his leg in front of a straight one before he had scored, the arrival of Mountney soon checked the Rossington bowlers.

Mountney scored freely and collected many of his runs with strokes behind the wicket in compiling his best score since joining the club. A useful knock by George Allen, who was undefeated for 26 when the Denaby innings closed for 234, concluded a varied display of batting.
Jepson, 5 or 55 was the best bowling for Rossington. Arthur Vollans, the former Denaby player, yielding 15 runs in his five overs, one of which was a maiden, without taking a wicket.

Robinson sent the first two Rossington batsmen back in quick time, but Vollans stayed to make 26 before he was bowled by Mountney. Harkin also offered resistance, but Denaby were heading for victory until Blount and Wildison intervened, the former carrying on his bat when the game concluded with Rossington 60 runs behind with two wickets to fall. Robinson took five of the Rossington wickets but they cost him 87 runs. Scores:—
