Obituary

Mr. A. I. Drabble
Head of Conisbrough: Manufacturing Firm,

The funeral took place on Tuesday, at Conisbrough We Methodist Church of Mr. Arthur Irving Drabble (57), of 2, North Cliff Road, Conisbrough, head of the Conisbrough firm of A. and D. Drabble Ltd., Wholesale and manufacturing confectioners.

Mr. Drabble died at his home on Thursday, only hours after being involved in a road accident near his home,

He leaves a widow, Mrs. P. Drabble and two daughters, Doreen and Yvonne,

Born in Conisbrough, Mr. Drabble worked with his father, who had started the confectionery business in 1895, a business which Mr. Drabble took over on the death of his father in 1945.

As a young man, he was well known in motor-cycle racing circles, and in 1924 he took Part in the Manx Amateur Grand prix During the 1930’s he became a highly proficient aeroplane pilot and was a member of the now defunct Doncaster Aero Club for many years.

During the war, he was rejected, by the R.A.F. by reason of his age but he joined the Air Transport Auxiliary, in which he piloted aircraft.
