Obituary

Mr James Thompson

The death occurred on Friday of a well-known Denaby figure, Mr James Thompson (61), of 128, Doncaster Rd, Denaby Main.

He had lived in Denaby Main nearly 60 years and for over 50 years had been a member of the Parish Church Choir. To mark the completion of his 50 years service he was the recipient of a watch, suitably inscribed, and subscribed to by choir members.

The last few years he had also fulfilled the duties of bellringer.

At the Parish Church morning service last Sunday, the choir and congregation stood in silence the two minutes as a token of respect.

The funeral took place on Tuesday at the Denaby cemetery.

A service was held in the church conducted by the vicar, the Rev. S. Powley, assisted by mister. S. G. Padgham (lay reader). The choir were in attendance.
