Murderous Assault at Conisbro’

On Saturday night last, a gross outrage was committed at Conisbro’.

It appeared that a discharged soldier named Henry Beaumont, lately of the 12th Lancers, was returning home from receiving his pension, and called at the Railway Station Hotel. Having placed pair of new boots on the table, they were seized by a party of roughs, and he, to save any unpleasantness, offered to pay for gallon beer if the boots were returned.

But one of the party made tracks, and supposing that, he had the boots with him, Beaumont once followed and asked him for his boots, when two other coming up, the three pounced upon Beaumont and violently assaulted him. Beaumont got loose and ran, but the three followed him to his uncle’s house, and, forcing in the door, again assaulted him and his uncle and cousin.

The man Beaumont now lies in most precarious condition. The perpetrators of this disgraceful outrage are still large.
