£500 in £1 Notes

Mr. T. C. Campbell, treasurer and acting secretary of Conisbrough Savings Committee, had a welcome visitor at his home in Doncaster Road, Conisbrough, on Monday evening.

Producing £500, all in £1 notes, this caller (introduced to National Savings by Conn. D. Hollins) asked Mr. Campbell to deposit the whole sum, the result of years of saving, in National Savings.

Mr. Campbell acquiesced with pleasure and alacrity. On Tuesday he purchased ten £50 Savings Certificates for his visitor, and told a ” South Yorkshire Times ” reporter that the Savings Committee were hoping that this example would be an incentive to other Conisbrough and Denaby residents similarly placed to follow suit and help Conisbrough urban district secure its £150,000 Silver Lining savings target this year.

The “South Yorkshire Times” understands that an anonymous resident in the urban district has also deposited £100 in £1 notes in National Savings this week.
