Nearly Hooked Pedestrians

Old Denaby Fishing Hazards

Old Denaby Parish Council decided, at a meeting on Friday, to send a letter to the Yorkshire Electricity Board, complaining that some anglers using the company’s pond adjoining Ferry Boat Lane, were not taking due care before casting their lines. Recently, some pedestrians had nearly been hit by the fishing lines, and this could be avoided, if anglers refrained from fishing from the lane side of the pond, and took up positions where they would be unable to be nuisances to people using the lane.

Coun. R. Earnshaw brought up the question of extra charges on the ferry, which he contended, should not be levied.

Coun. A. Spivey alleged that one woman using the ferry had been charged for herself, the pram she was pushing, and the baby in the pram.

It was agreed that a letter be sent to the Inland Waterways Executive, drawing attention to these complaints.

Because the new cricket pitch, at the end of Ferry Boat Lane was now in frequent use, traffic using the lane had been greatly increased, and the Council agreed that a letter suggesting a 5 m.p.h. speed limit be put on traffic using the lane, be sent to the Doncaster

Following complaints from Doncaster Rural Council about dustbins not being emptied, councilors said that the service had since improved.
