New Colliery.

Rapid progress is being made in Connection with the sinking operations, in view, of the opening of another shaft.

A large number of men are being diurnally employed preparing beds for the engines, fixing up the boilers, &c, and the boring work makes much headway.

As was expected at the outset— the new shaft being only a short distance from the canal — a considerable quantity of water is encountered the deeper the shaft is made; but powerful pumps are employed to carry the accumulations back to the canal.

The erection of the new cottages is also progressing favourably, and one street has nearly been completed already.

As many as 460 additional coal wagons are being constructed for the company.
