New Conisboro’ Miner Sent To Gaol

At Tredegar Police Court on Tuesday, Oliver Lloyd, 28, miner, New Conisboro’, was charged on remand with receiving articles of jewellery, valued at about £3, a portion of goods valued at £115, supposed to have been stolen at New Tredegar on Feb. 1st.

Prisoner pleaded guilty.

Thomas William O’Connor, jeweller, New Tredegar, deposed that his shop was broken into on the night of Feb. 1st, and about £115 worth of goods taken. Witness identified the ring and chain produced as two of the articles stolen.

Mary Goodwin, married woman, New Conisboro’, stated that she knew the prisoner. On March 18th, at the prisoner’s request, she pawned the ring for 6s., and gave the money to prisoner.

David Dunger, pawnbroker’s manager, New Conisboro’, gave evidence as to receiving the ring in pledge.

Prisoner was sentenced to six months’ hard labour.
