Struck Off
New Conisborough Labour Club’s Debts
£1300 For Drink

“The club has got itself into a hopeless tangle, owed money in every direction, and now has ceased to exist,” said Supt. Huddlestone at Doncaster on Tuesday when applying for the New Conisborough Labour Club to be struck off the register.

The club was represented by its Secretary, William Higgins, who admitted that the club had ceased to exist.

Magistrates’ Clerk (Mr. E. W. Pettifer): Owing nearly £1,300 for drink? – Yes.

What have you done with the money after selling the drink? – That money was spent before I took over.

That is what they all say. These are clear cases of frauds-deficit of over £600 on the trading account, and a mortgage on club premises of £1,650. Were you not re-organised some time ago? – Some years ago.

Mr. Pettifer: I thought I remembered right.  You wiped off hundreds of pounds you owed then.  You have been registered since 1919.

The club was struck off and the premises disqualified for twelve months
