Thirty-eight years-old Mr. Robert Fender Edwardson, Deputy Clerk to Billingham (County Durham) Urban Council, since October 1st, 1948, was on Tuesday appointed Clerk to Conisbrough Urban Council.

Mr. Edwardson who takes up his new duties on July 1st. will succeed Mr. R. W. Birch who retires in June after 25 years’ service with the Council, the last 12 years as Clerk.

Mr. Edwardson who is married, with two children, was selected from a short list of five candidates. There were 44 applicants for the position.

Before joining Billingham Urban Council in 1948 Mr. Edwardson was on the staff of the Town Clerk of Durham and previously had experience with two important legal firms in the North.. He had five years’ war service.
