New Councillor. – Mr Tom Hill

Mr. Tom Hill, of Welfare Bungalow, Cricket Field, Tickhill Square, a Labour nominee, was the only candidate on Saturday for the Denaby Ward by-election on the Conisborough Urban District Council, and was, therefore, duly elected.

Mr. Hill, a checkweighman at Cadeby Main Colliery, succeeds Mr. Alfred Swaby, whose seat was declared vacant by the Council at their last month’s meeting on account of Mr. Swaby’s nonattendance at Council meetings.

Mr. Hill, whose term of office runs till next April, was a councillor from 1923 to 1925 after having previously made two unsuccessful attempts for honours.

He is president of the Denaby and Cadeby Miners’ Welfare Institute, president of the Denaby and Cadeby Home Coal Carting Committee and treasurer of the Cadeby branch of the Y.M.A.
