Was born at Denaby and has worked as a miner for 26 years. Was at Hemsworth from 1912 to 1919, and married there in 1913. Now works at Denaby Main and is president of the checkweigh fund. Has been secretary of the local Labour party for five years, and is a branch committeeman of the Y.M.A., and on the Fullerton Hospital Committee.
A keen sportsman, played for Doncaster Rovers in 1911, has two sons now with that club, and one who captained the Yorkshire school team against Lancashire in 1929. Is a Salvationist and formerly a bandsman. His brother, Mr. R. H. Shephard, has been on the Council for three years.
