Denaby Memorial Park

The new Memorial Park is Denaby is to be illuminated by eight lamps of 500 watts each, mounted on tall standards in the centre of the park. The control is to be by automatic switch of the latest type, which very nearly realises perpetual motion. This switch winds itself up and adjusts for the timing the lighting period.

When this Memorial Park is completed it promises to eclipse Conisboro’s delightful Coronation Park, mainly because of the bigger area it covers. In the first place, its turf is of a better quality.

A large number of shrubs is available owing to thinning out at the Denaby Main cemetery. There are to be 306 flowering shrubs, 47 evergreens, a beech hedge, 160 standard roses. 1,250 other roses in five beds, 128 lilies, 889 herbaceous plants, 120 tall dahlias, 150 dwarf dahlias, 1385 herbaceous plants for narrow borders, £25 worth of chrysanthemums and gladiolas, and for spring show 15,000 tulips, anti 5760 daffodils.

The rockery will be planted with dwarf evergreens and 250 rock plants. In addition 3000 snapdragons will be raised from seed. The total cost of this lot is £337, and £75 has been saved on the turfing. Coronation Park will have 3000 tulips and 1,000 daffodils for its spring show.
