New Hospital at Denaby Main
The workmen of Denaby and Cadeby Main have spoken in no uncertain voice on the question of erecting a cottage hospital at Denaby Main. In accordance with the Trades Act, a ballot was taken on Tuesday, and although the voting was absolutely secret, the result shows an overwhelming majority in favour of the erection of a home institution.
At Denaby 1116 voted for, and 35 against, giving a majority of 519. At Cadeby the figures were even more convincing, 125 recording their votes for, and only 433 against, giving a majority of 701. There were 33 spoilt papers at Denaby, and 16 at Cadeby.
In the aggregate 2,240 favoured the new hospital, and but 470 opposed, the grand majority for being 1,770. As the present means a weekly levy of 1d. on the men and ½d. on the boys employed at the two pits, the whole scheme to keep the proposed institution in practical shape, with the gift of a free site and such enthusiasm apparent, the hospital will soon be an accomplished fact.
