New Post for Denaby Youth Leader

Mr. John Smith, secretary of Mexborough Youth Football League, and for the past five years full-time youth leader at Denaby Tom Hill Youth Centre, is to leave the district at the end of next month to take up a post in Gloucestershire.

Mr. Smith, aged 39, a native of Ealing, West London, has been promoted to assistant area youth organiser, covering an area of 500 to 600 square miles in and around the city of Gloucester. The area also includes parts of Tewkesbury, Cheltenham and Winchcombe districts.

Married with one son, Christopher (13), a pupil of Mexborough Grammar School, Mr. Smith was a part-time youth leader in Middlesex before he came to Denaby. He was trained for the service at the National College for the Training of Full Time Youth Leaders, Leicester.

He has been secretary of Mexborough Youth Football League for the past two years,
and is also assistant secretary of the Conisbrough Urban District Five-a-side football competition, chairman of the Mexborough Division Standing Conference of Youth Leaders and vice chairman of Conisbrough Youth Council.

Mr. Smith’s wife, Mrs. Patricia Smith, has been assistant for her husband at the Denaby club. She was formerly secretary at Denaby St, Alban’s Primary School and is also known for her work at Denaby Child Welfare Clinic.

Mr. Smith takes up his new post on March 1st.
