New Vicar of Denaby Inducted

The Induction of the 10th Vicar of Denaby Main since the Church was consecrated in 1900 was held on Saturday.

The Bishop of Sheffield, the Right Rev F.J.Taylor conducted the ceremonies prior to the induction of the Rev R.S.Whitehead, who was presented to the Bishop by the assistant Rural Dean, the reverent G.F.Braithwaite.

The induction was conducted by the Rural Dean, Cannon J Lyth, who was deputising for the Archdeacon of Doncaster, the venerable P.G. Bostock who was unable to attend through illness.

During his address the Bishop paid tribute to the work of the Assistant Dean and churchwardens for the work they are carried out during a six months interregnum.

Visiting priests and ministers at the service included: the Reverent A R Halliday (Loversall) who acted as Bishop’s Chaplain, Father O’Kane (St Albans Church), the Rev Maurice Hart (Epworth Hall) the Rev DG Holtom (Low field Church), and Capt and Mrs G Hardy (Salvation Army)

About 40 people, including about 20 teenagers, made the journey from Mr White’s previous parish at Reading. After the B entertained to refreshments in St Chad’s Hall, Mr Morris Purber, Vicars Warden at St Bartholomew, Reading, thank the Denaby people for the wonderful way they had been received.

He had a: “Mr Whiteford as Indian himself to our parish and people in his work for young people has been outstanding.”

There was a welcome for the new vicar and Mrs Whitehead at St Chad’s Hall on Monday.
