Mexborough & Swinton Times – Saturday 05 January 1924
On New Year’s Eve, at Denaby, an enjoyable and very successful dance was held in the Large Hall on behalf of the funds of the Ambulance Corps.
Mr. R. Whitman was a capable M.C., and the company numbered about 300. Music was supplied by Mr. Williams’s band.
At midnight those present joined hands and sang “Auld Lang Syne.”
The patients at Fullerton Hospital, and their friends, were splendidly entertained on Saturday evening.
The Hospital was very prettily decorated, and was gaily lit by fairy lamps, while the large Christmas tree also bore a load of electric lights.
Mr. S. R. Johnson, secretary of the hospital, presided, and the programme was contributed to by Misses Glover (soprano), Bashforth (contralto), F. Wathey (violinist), Messrs. C. Ashworth (tenor), A. N. Robinson (baritone), with Miss Wilson, of Mexborough, and Miss Dorothy Wathey, A.L.C.M., of Denaby, as accompanists.
All the items were very much enjoyed.
At the British Legion Club on New Year’s Day, a smoking concert was thrown open to the members’ wives, and a number took advantage of the opportunity to spend a very pleasant evening.
Local artists provided an entertaining programme.
The single men of the Wesleyan Church provided entertainment in the Hut belonging to the Church, getting together a good programme.
The proceeds went towards the fund for providing new heating apparatus in the Church.
