Drowning  Escape

On Sunday last a boy, named F.Walton, aged about seven years had a narrow escape from being drowned . It appears that this boy, along with several others, was playing on the ice near the “Grey’s” bridge, Mexborough, when it suddenly broke and let the little chap in.

His companions raised the alarm, fortunately, a man named Mr H.Atkins, happened to be near the place, and he speedily fished the boy out, who was very little worse his immersion, and he was taken to the home of his parents in Doncaster road.

Burning Fatality

A sad burning fatality occurred to a girl named Mary Hill, residing with her parents in Balby Street, New Conisbrough. The unfortunate little girl was in the act of drawing up the fire, when are nightdress became ignited. The screams riles father, who was in bed at the time; he ran down the stairs, and put out the flames, but the girl was shockingly burnt, and died from injuries received. An inquest is to be held.

Mental Disorder

It is with extreme regret that I have to announce that it has been necessary, through mental derangement, to remove Mr R.B.Gethen to a place of safety. Mr Gethen is well-known throughout the district as a prominent church worker, and is also in an official position in the local order of Foresters. Much sympathy is expressed for the young man in his sad affliction, and hopes are entertained of his speedy recovery.
