No Change in the Rate at Conisbrough

Conisbrough’s general rate for the next financial year will be unchanged for the fourth successive year at 11s. in the pound. This was agreed at a special meeting of Conisbrough Urban Council on Wednesday when the authority also levied a water charge of 1s. 6d. in the pound on behalf of the Doncaster and District Joint water board.

The acting chairman of the finance committee, Councillor. G. Cheshire, said the council had managed to shield the ratepayers from a four penny increase in the county precept, partly by drawing on surpluses and balances and partly as a result of favourable rate deficiency grant.

Councillor Cheshire added: “This is no mean achievement in the circumstances and is a demonstration of extreme financial steadiness.”
