No Winter League After All

Conisbrough and District Angling Association will not organise a winter fishing league. This was decided at a meeting in the Red Lion Hotel, Conisbrough, on Saturday.

Mr. Tom Holmes, president, and Mr. Fred Stephenson, secretary, had been trying to get support of members for this venture, but to run a winter’s league and make a financial success of it would mean guaranteeing full bus loads to all matches, Mr. Stephenson explained. If this could not be guaranteed, the club would be running at a loss all the time. The financial position of the Association is satisfactory, but finances would not stand many losses in bus fares if members did not turn up for matches.

It was on these grounds that the proposition was turned down, as full buses could not be guaranteed. Instead of the league, is is proposed to run a series of matches against other clubs and Associations, and buses will be booked only shortly before the matches.

The first match will be against Bentley Toll Bar Central Angling Club at Laneham Ferry on November 27th.
