Now he knows !

A well-known Conisbrough personality tells the following tale of two men, a car and an empty petrol tank.

Quite recently, a car ran out of petrol at Brooke Square, Conisbrough. The driver, a South Yorkshireman, reasoned that it would take two pairs of hands to push the car to the nearest petrol station, and recruited the services of a passer-by for a push up the long drag of Doncaster Road, Conisbrough.

A quarter of a mile later the garage was in sight, and the two men leaned back to congratulate themselves, puffing and panting.

“Do . . . you . . . smoke?” panted the driver to his Good Samaritan companion. “As a matter . . . of . . . fact . . . yes . . .” puffed back the helper, trying not to look to eager but hopefully taking his hands from his pockets.

“Well that’ll be . . . the reason . . . you’re . . . panting so much” was the reply.
