Obituary – Smith
Mr. Smith of 44, Athelstane Road, Conisbrough, died last Wednesday at his home at the age of 63. He was well remembered in this district as a pianist of great ability.
He was a native of Blackpool and in his younger days was correspondent to a well-known Northern newspaper and had travelled round the world in that capacity. He spent a number of years in South America and the U.S.A., where he was a member of the famous Pinkerton Detective Agency. His musical career took him round the music halls and the stage, where he came into contact with many well-known celebrities.
His family are all musicians and some are at present on the stage. He served throughout the last war and spent most of the time in France. In this war three of his sons are serving with the Forces.
For many years he had been a member of the R.A.O.B. Lodges and full rites were observed at the funeral, which took place at Mexborough on Friday following a service in the Conisbrough Parish Church, conducted by the Vicar of Conisbrough, the Rev. G. Needham.
