Conisborough residents, as well as many friends in the surrounding district, were shocked to learn on Friday evening of the death of Mrs Minnie Coax Nicholson, wife of Mr Henry Ernest Nicholson, the Garage, Conisborough, which occurred with tragic suddenness on Friday afternoon.

It was Mr Nicholson’s birthday on Friday and he and Mrs Nicholson were about to set off by car with some friends, on a visit to their daughter Mrs J.H.Sutcliffe, who resides at Sheffield, when Mr Nicholson complained that she felt unwell. She was helped back into the house and the doctor was summoned immediately but Mrs Nicholson expired shortly afterwards.

Though Mr Nicholson had not enjoyed the best of health for some years, she had always been a welcome figure in local social circles by reason of her charming and kindly disposition, and a constant readiness to give her assistance to any good cause. She was ever ready to help either organisations or individuals and the deepest sympathy is felt for Mr Nicholson and his daughter in their bereavement.

Fond of all kinds of sports, Mrs Nicholson took a great interest in cricket, and had been a member of the Yorkshire County Cricket Club for many years, and was often to be seen on the various county grounds.

She was a member of the Doncaster and Rotherham Golf Clubs. Her interests also include membership of the Conisborough branch of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.

She was a daughter of the late Ald Mark Dowson, a former Mayor of Doncaster, and had lived in Conisborough for 22 years. Her premature death is a distinct loss to the township.
