Obscene Language at Mexborough

John O’Brien, miner, Denaby, was charged with having used obscene language at Mexborough.

Police constable Cade deposed that at 10 minutes to ten o’clock on Sunday night he was on duty on the Doncaster, near the Sparrow barracks, when he saw the defendant on the highway. He made use of the language referred to.

The police sergeant gave corroborative evidence.

The defendant did not appear and his wife said he had gone to work; “he had been off work for five weeks.”

Fined 20s., including costs.
