Odds And Ends

The cricket ground at Conisboro’ has this season been the scene of no less than eight record performances. The first record was established in the six-a-side knock-out competition run by the club, when G. Holmes’ VI scored 197 in an hour for the loss of only one wicket. On Saturday, in the Doncaster League (Division 3). Conisboro’s second string broke four records, while three members of the team made personal records.

The ground record of 235 was easily broken when Conisboro’ scored 249 for wickets against Edenthorpe in 1 hour 45 minutes, a division, and a time record. The ball was sent to boundary 24 times and lifted clean out of the field for six 6 times.

The chief contributor was H. Humphries, who made his highest score with a faultless 83. Humphries who is the son of an old sportsman, “Fob” Humphries, has done much good work with bat and ball for the club and is well in the running for the league average prize. He is also organiser and secretary of the knock-out competition.

In the winter he assists Conisboro’ Rangers, being one of the most prolific goal scorers in the district.

Jack Curtis. who made 78, thus beating his previous week’s record of 65 against Sprotboro’. is one of five youngsters in the Conisboro’ team under the age of 17. He is proving a splendid batsman with a hard drive. He is also a useful bowler. It is only about two years since was playing football for Conisboro’ Middle School, and it is quite likely that he will next season play with Conisboro’ Rangers who are all cricket club members.
