Old Denaby Film Show.
History was made at Old Denaby on Monday when the first talkie film ever to be shown in the village was applauded by a large audience in the village schoolroom.
The occasion was the visit of the Yorkshire Rural Community Council’s travelling cinema, and the films shown included. “The Camels Are Coming.” featuring Jack Hulbert, and a Mickey Mouse cartoon.
Some of the villagers were seeing a talking film for the first time. Mr. J. Wright, veteran chairman of the Parish Council, told the ” Times ” that it was the first sound film he had ever seen, though he saw a silent film about twenty years ago during a holiday at Scarborough, when on a wet day he visited a cinema and slept throughout the performance.
The Yorkshire Rural Community Council, which provides lectures and entertainment in country districts, has been giving a series of cinema shows to a number of parishes within the Doncaster rural area
