Old Denaby Parish Council
Protection of Ferry Lane Path
that criticism has been levelled against the parish council because the hold up in the installation of street lighting was mentioned by Mr G. O. Randerson at a meeting of Old Denaby Parish Council, Wednesday, Mr H. Neal presiding.
The Clerk (Mr G. Brocklesby), said the Parish Council, the Rural Council and the Electricity Company had done everything in their power to get the scheme started. A letter was read from the electricity companies stated that they would endevour to have street lighting available at old Denaby for the next lighting season.
The Clerk was asked to write again to the Doncaster Rural Council to ask for a reduction in the charges for cartered water.
Letters had been written to farmers pointing out damage to the Ferry Lane footpath, alleged to have been done by cattle. The letters stated that the Parish Council proposed fencing the field adjoining the footpath. Replies were that the farmers were in favour of the erection of the fence, but damage had not been done by cattle.
One of the farmers, Mr Scott, was present, and said that apart from the fact that cattle will not be able to get across at will to the pond at the other side of footpath he had no objection to the erection of a fence. He suggested a dyke in the grazing field would provide water for the cattle.
The Clerk said the erection of a fence would be of mutual advantage, and the estate owners would be approached so far as the cost of the fence was concerned. The Farmers would be asked for help in the labour involved.
A request to the County Council to accept responsibility for the upkeep of the Ferry Lane footpath had bought the reply that the County Council would be responsible for the footpath only from the main road to the first gate.
A donation of £1 1s. to the national memorial to King George fund was recommended.
