“Only Wrestling” at Denaby.
It is hard to have to pay for indulging in what may be called a “friendly fight,” but the public highway must be kept clear of obstruction .
William Lawley and John Baggs, miners, of Denaby, were summoned for having caused a breach of the peace by fighting at that place on March 16.
The defendants pleading guilty, and Baggs, addressing the court said: We were not fighting, only wrestling in the Lancashire style; of course the constable had to do his duty.
The Chairman: Yes, but you must not do it on the highway. You will each have to pay the costs.
