Operatic Society

The committee of the Conisborough Church Operatic Society met at the vicarage on Friday to select play for their next production, which will be in January. The vicar, the rev. WJ. T. Pascoe, presided.

It was decided that the piece should be “The Account of Como,” a comic opera in 3 acts, by F. R. Bell, Harold Ellis and. H. Bullock. These three were associated in the writing and composing a “highway man,” which some years ago was produced here, and the lilting airs which still haunt the memories of those who saw it.

“The Account of Como,” definitely defers from the last two productions in Conisbrough, and gives ample opportunity for the wealth of vocal and artistic talent which this society possesses.

The play has its foundation in Tyrolean banditry. Mr F. O. Dowdall, who has produced here in recent years has resigned, and for this Mr Jack Snelgrove (Mexborough), will be their producer. Mr B. B. Clarkson will again be musical director. Rehearsals begin on Tuesday, and the cast will shortly be completed.
