Conisbrough Road Sweepers Seek Five-Day Week

A five-day week for road sweepers was out of the question said Ald. B. Roberts, J.P., at last Monday’s meeting of Conisbrough Urban Council.

He was commenting on a Highways committee minute which recommended that an application of employees engaged on road sweeping to work a five day week be not granted.

‘They are for the purpose of sweeping paper and other nuisances and weekends are the times when most of the rubbish collects.

We many a time see paper on Sunday which should not be there and we could not allow a proposition like this to go forward.’
