Pelting Pylons

Might Throw Thousands Out Of Work

When two Denaby schoolboys were summoned at Doncaster on Wednesday for damaging insulators to the extent of 2s. 4d.. the property of the Yorkshire Electric Power Co.. at Denaby. Mr. 0. E. Wilson, of Leeds, prosecuting, said on April 26th a policeman hearing a noise found the lads throwing stones at the insulator standards.

It was later found that eleven had been damaged and had to be replaced. This type of offence was very prevalent and was not easy to detect. In this case the line ran from Ferrybridge to Silverwood, and served 5,000 consumers, many of whom were collieries, works, and factories. Damage of this character might easily throw thousands of people out of work and affect lighting supplies.

The parents, who had large families, were each ordered to pay 5s costs, the Chairman (Mr. R. E. Cock) stating that but for their circumstances the Bench would have dealt more seriously with the cases.
