Petrol To Oil

The Denaby and Cadeby Home Coal Carting Committee have been experimenting with Diesel oil engines for their lorries, which now number eight, and have found the running costs of two experimental vehicles a tenth of the cost of vehicles petrol driven.

The Diesel type can travel 15 miles on a gallon of oil costing 4d., compared with five miles on a gallon of petrol costing 1s. 3d.

The Committee cart between 35,000 and 36,000 loads a year, in an area which includes Leeds, Barnsley, Doncaster and Sheffield. A very important saving, therefore, may be expected from the change-over.
