Photographing Conisbrough Fire Brigade

On Saturday afternoon last an accident – happily not a serious one – happened to Fireman Shaw.

The brigade had been out for practice, and on returning called at Mr Lewis Smith’s, local photographers, to have a group of themselves taken on the engine. This having been done, the driver was instructed to proceed – without warning the fireman to hold fast and the sudden jerk dislodged three of four men from their foothold and they fell to the ground.

Fireman Shaw, who is a well proportioned man, not under 16 stone, dropped heavily, and sustained injury to the base of the skull. Fireman Illingworth (a first aid man) rendered temporary assistance, and Straw was soon able to resume duty.

A number of the brigade will visit Skipton on Saturday next as delegates to the Fireman’s Annual Gathering.
